VA accused of concealing suicide attempts

Veterans' rights groups accused the Department of Veterans Affairs of trying to conceal the number of suicide attempts among former servicemembers and of failing to provide adequate mental health care, during the first day of the trial of a national lawsuit in San Francisco, CBS News reported. The CBS website showed internal e-mails written by Ira Katz, the VA's head of mental health, that estimated about 1,000 suicide attempts a month among veterans seen in VA facilities.
